I drew this for Valentine’s Day last year. What can I say? I’m a romantic.
Now February 14th is crawling its way onto the calendar and I’m looking at this drawing again, one year later. I think I can honestly say, “I like it”. I mean, I’m quite proud of it.
It’s faaarrrr from perfect - I see many, many flaws. Some of them I could probably try and correct, but others I’m not too sure how to fix. I think J’s head is a bit small and/or is at a weird-looking angle, and his neck looks too long. Harley’s wrist is too thick, but I’m worried that making it thinner would make her forearm look too short. There are also a lot of minor improvements I could make over the whole picture, which I probably will do, and maybe play around with colours some more and blahhhhhh.
That said, fuck it, there are a lot of things about this drawing that I’m stoked with. The dark blood dripping from Harley’s mouth, the stitches on her shoulder, the blood splatters on her arm. The scratches down J’s back. The details, really, are pleasing to my eye. And the lighting. I’m glad I experimented and posted both results, because I lost the original file in the great motherfucking hard-drive crash of ‘11.
I may actually re-do the whole thing all over again and see if I can out-do myself. I’ve learned a lot of new skills since then and have some really amazing new brushes I’m keen to work with. I dunno if I have the creative energy though, tbh.
